About Us

What We're About

We promote a nurturing environment where childhood is treasured and not rushed.

We embrace play-based learning, encouraging children to explore nature, tinker, wonder, and learn about the real world through meaningful experiences and relationships. We believe children’s early experiences are fundamental in the foundation and framework for kindergarten and beyond.
Research shows that children learn best through play, this is why we take a play-based approach to learning. Our environment and materials encourage children's natural instincts to see, think, and wonder. These opportunities, with skilled teachers that guide children, contribute to children’s confidence, creativity, and develop a love of learning.
How We Do Things
We provide a rich indoor and outdoor environment where children are challenged to learn while making friends, developing self-confidence, and cultivating self-direction.

Changes to the learning environment, activities, and long-term projects reflect the children’s emerging interests, helping them reach new milestones. Our teachers plan individual and group activities to foster connections, and scaffolded learning. Our daily routines and classroom traditions build confidence, instill a sense of gratitude, and encourage appreciation for the world around them.

We encourage and extend children’s inquiries by asking open-ended questions, and value process over product. These strategies help children develop self-motivation, build self-esteem, and understand cause and effect relationships. It can also help them learn how to think, rather than just what to think.

All of the skill development and learning is gained through purposeful play!

Supporting Our Parents
To support our parents, we offer parenting groups and school events to nurture our community.

Our parenting groups are a great way to support your parenting journey, meet other parents, and build community.

We host special events for enrolled families to help parents get to know each other—the parents of the children your child plays with all day!

OUR DIRECTOR

Pauline McPeake

After 20 wonderful years at Growing Place, I’m excited to bring my extensive experience and heartfelt passion to foster exemplary practices to showcase the remarkable capabilities of young children. My quest for knowledge and innovation took me around the world, studying Forest Schools in Denmark, Reggio schools in Italy, and educational programs in Sweden, China, and around the US. These experiences have shaped my philosophy and approach, blending best practices to create a unique and enriching environment for all children.

Beyond my professional life, I cherish my personal experience as a mother. My daughter’s preschool years were some of the sweetest moments in my life, and I am committed to replicating that same warmth and joy for the families at Canyon Crest Preschool!
